Writer, PR, content consultant and sologamist; I am Sophie Tanner. I live in Kemptown Village, Brighton, with my bumptious labrador, Ella. It is a mere romp from the beach and suits us very well. After all, as Virginia Woolf made quite clear, all one really needs in order to indulge one’s creative impulses is ‘a room of one’s own’. Ella and I love to explore the coastline and Sussex Downs, both revelling in the opportunity to be outdoors, surrounded by nature.
I grew up in the beautiful countryside of Dorset then moved to London to study English and Theatre, becoming fascinated with the different performative rituals of different cultures across the globe. As a graduate, I worked in marketing for a few years before donning a backpack seeing more of the world myself – mainly Africa and Central America. Whilst travelling I gained a real appreciation of how much impact us humans have on the environment, growing especially passionate about wildlife conservation. I was drawn to Brighton when I returned, thanks to its relaxed attitude, open-minded spirit and colourful lifestyle.
I then trained as a journalist and worked in responsible tourism and travel before switching to becoming a PR and content consultant at a digital agency. I now have 12+ years of digital marketing experience under my belt and am constantly intrigued by the ever-evolving digital landscape.
I am eternally curious about human behavior and have a strong interest in literature, music and theatre. I have always been an avid reader; I absolutely love to curl up with a book. I am so delighted to see my first novel Reader, I Married Me published by Trapeze in 2019. It is a cheeky, light-heartedly subversive tale about a girl who decides to marry herself. I strongly believe that all good relationships begin with the self and that self love should be celebrated. I’m keen to encourage a mind shift; empowering other people to accept and celebrate themselves. And so, reader, I did actually marry me – in a cultural ceremony in Brighton in 2015! You can read more about this over at www.imarriedme.co.uk 🙂
I would love to hear from you – whether you have questions about sologamy, my novel or would like to work together – let’s talk.
